"Libraries provide an essential and well established service to the public and the community at large. The coming and evolution of the Information Age demands that sooner or later public libraries will be required to supplement book stock with more and more digitised materials. By acting now and introducing a national network of public library resources, libraries will not only add value to and enrich citizens of all ages in all communities, but also ensure a more co-ordinated approach to networking across local government."
Len Graves is Head of IT and Financial services at Essex County Council. He joined Essex and local government in 1984 having previously held senior IT posts within the private sector.
Len is President of the Society of Information Technology Management (SOCITM). He has previously held honorary posts with BULL USER ASSOCIATION, NATIONAL COMPUTING CENTRES and INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SECRETARIES AND ADMINISTRATORS.
In view of the essential contribution that IS/IT has to make to Information for All and the role of local government IT managers in support of corporate and library infrastructure, it was considered beneficial to invite a representative of SOCITM to the Board. Further, SOCITM has established working relationship with the Society of Chief Librarians (SCL).
